In the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, online learning is considered as the most suitable measure of education for the country in general and Hai Phong city in particular. However, the effectiveness of it is still a concern of many parents.

Due to the complicated Covid-19 epidemic, Hai Phong city did not organize the school year 2021-2022 ceremony for all informal school systems. Instead, secondary schools and high schools will maintain teaching and learning new school year curriculum online during social lockdown according to the Directive 16.

Schools commenced the new school year from October 10th for class organization and knowledge consolidation. From October 20th, students truly started the first semester in the form of online learning. It is supposed that students in Hai Phong City have to learn online until the end of the first term when the situation improves.

Despite the force majeure clause, many parents still worry about the difficulties of learning online.

For many elementary school students, parents need to be closely accompanied to support them in using computers, speakers, or learning softwares… However, not all parents have time to follow their children all day long.

Secondary and high school students already have basic knowledge of using learning equipment but not all of them can study effectively without adults’ supervision. Many parents reflect on their children’s distraction

“In my viewpoint, online learning in the current context faces some irritating problems as follows. First and foremost, not all families can afford to buy necessary equipment for their children to study. The second thing is that it is hard for the majority of parents to spend time closely keeping an eye on their children's learning as parents work during their class time. The third problem is that the children's acquisition is very limited compared to the on-site learning.”

The method of teaching still needs to be researched to suit the actual situation, especially for grade 1 students. Learning from the other countries’ experiences is also extremely necessary to enhance the strengths of online learning - a trend that cannot be ignored in the digital age.
